Rich Religion

I read this book titled Wounded Continent by Tom Griner. The book is about the sufferings of the African people and how God is turning their despair into hope.  This article is not a sales promotion of Mr. Griner's book, however it is about Christianity and how it is being marketed and distributed in America.  This is a brief outline of  Christianity in the West flourishes as a multi-billion dollar enterprise in contrast to Christianity in Africa.

In North America we can find where Christianity is promoted on a wide scale; from Christian entertainment, Christian dating, Christian books and Christian clubs just to name a few.  You can find a Christian seminar on anything from paying your bills, divorce, and how to get rich.  As long as their is a market people will pay.

Sadly the Body of Christ in this instance is largely committed to itself.  I have heard churches promote leadership conference, there is nothing wrong with that we need strong committed leaders in the church.  I have also heard marketing schemes promoting the church instead of outreach.
What I yet to hear and this is not to say it isn't happening a church promoting how to win souls to Christ.  I have passed by churches selling hot dogs to keep the doors open rather than enter into a partnership with other churches.

We have some of the greatest gospel singers in the world, yet when you listen to some of the lyrics they are broken scriptures comprised of what God is doing for them; its like, I got mine through God now you get yours.  I'm making thousands of dollars, he did it for me he'll do it for you.  Oh, you got talent well, let me back you and I can make more money or open a Christian restaurant because God favors me.

Christians may say they don't have money but it isn't the unbelievers, according to Mr. Griner, and I tend agree with his statement because I seen Christian families that won't help a family member but will help someone and flaunt it in the family member's face.

Of course some of these ministries help the poor; that's right some, and for those who reach out according to the Great Commission to all nations those are the ones who are truly clothing, feeding, visiting, and answering the knocks at the door.

God's grace is truly blessing America and Europe.  Has the thought crossed your mind that this is part of God's divine plan.  To whom much is given, from him much will be required. (Luke 12:48)

Today in America we are looking at an Economic Crisis.  The Federal Government has threaten to close down.  Politicians are falling by the wayside of scandal, and greed.  This is on the local level as well. In recent times hurricane Katrina has displaced thousands.  A major oil spill in the Gulf has probably destroyed the sea food industry along with those who made their living fishing those waters for generations.  A major argument is raging in Washington D.C. about taxing the wealthy, while people are losing their homes, jobs and their lives, and the price of everything is steadily rising.

Consider this, Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.  And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me; therefore I took them away as I saw good. (Ezekiel 16: 49, 50)
