Breaking Faith With God
How often have me made promises to God only to break that promise as soon as its made. Ironically many of us have experienced this at one time or another, however, we reach a state of gratification and forget what brought on our troubles until it happens again.
Consider Achan's sin in Joshua 7: 1. "But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against the children of Israel." (Key Bible, KJV)
Joshua suffered defeat at Ai because of disobedience. When we break faith with God there are consequences, just as Israel learned. Achan's attempt to hide his sin from God resulted in the death of himself and his entire family.
It seems cruel that a the God of love would do this thing to one of own. Not cruel at all. Each time we take charge of our lives the results are disastrous. Joshua expected a swift defeat at Ai. He seen the power God manifested at Jericho, furthermore, he did not consult God before entering the battle.
The moment we think we have a power greater than God is the moment we deliver ourselves to defeat. When are powerless to manage our lives but God is faithful and just; He takes charge of our lives and deliver us from evil. Joshua prayed to God. He was rewarded with victory over Ai. God fights our battles and we become more than conquerors.
Victory is mine today. Why? because God is the head of my life.
