Ananias and Sapphira
Do you know the story of Ananias and Sapphira? They are husband and wife who lied to the Holy Spirit and God killed them. That's right God killed them. They were bad examples of sharing.
Christians were selling their belongings and bringing them to the Apostles. The Apostles would give to everyone according to their needs. Ananias and Sapphira sold their land but kept part of the profits for themselves. There is nothing wrong with this because they had the right to do whatever they desired because they are the owners. The problem was that when they gave the portion, they gave as if they gave all. Attempting to deceive the Holy Spirit caused their death. God will not be mocked. (Acts 5: 1-11)
God requires a tenth in tithes. How often have we given a portion of the tenth for whatever reason? Do you not consider that lying to God? Do you not consider this disobedience. "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offers." (Malachi 3: 8, Key Bible, KJV)
How many times have we promised God something only to break that promise? Aren't you glad God didn't break his Promise (Jesus)?
God not only keeps his promise because he cannot lie he gave us a wonderful gift. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16, Key Bible, KJV)
What a wonderful God we serve, and he deserves the best we have to offer and that is obedience.
