Weakness
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. (2 Cor 7,8, Key Bible, KJV)
Human weakness provides the ideal opportunity for the display of divine power. The precise nature of this affliction is unknown, however in Romans 7:23 Paul identifies another law in his members warring against the law of his mind, and bringing him into captivity to the law of sin which is in his members.
A common misunderstanding among many Christians is, they have no weaknesses. This could not be further from the truth. We humans are afflicted with weaknesses. If we all do not have weakness then the present condition of the world would reflect that in our lives, community, homes and our churches.
Paul states he sought the Lord three times that he might remove his weakness. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Cor 12: 9)
His grace is sufficient for Paul and all of us is a better solution than to remove the thorn. Paul accepted the Lord's answer gladly. He rather glory in weakness that the power of Christ may rest upon him. For too often many Christians desire things their way mainly because of self-centeredness which is spiritual immaturity. Children often persistently pursue their parents for many things the parents deem necessary or unnecessary. In some cases the children learn the hard way that parents knew what is best or the child on some occasions is thankful the parent stood by their decision.
Paul's acceptance resulted in him saying, Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Cor 12: 10)
Clearly it is not about us; its about Christ. As long as we remain in this sinful flesh we will have infirmities, reproaches in necessities, in persecutions and distresses. If a person truly has faith in I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me; then there should be the attitude of Paul in all who have said yes to Jesus.
Don't be fooled by the wisdom of those who may say differently because it is written God's kingdom is not one of word but one of power.
It is a trick of the enemy to keep many in bondage (separated from God). For too many people are in danger of going to hell because they believe they have the strength to change their circumstances. If that were so, consider your present condition, is it working?
