Elijah Warns Ahab Of A Drought
And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word. (1 Kings 17:1)
God raised Elijah up at a critical time, when the worship of Baal threatened the very existence of the worship of Jehovah in Israel.
Elijah (my god is Jehovah), standing before King Ahab (uncle) makes a bold statement. There is much in a name. Baal-worship was connected with licentious rites. The god of fertility. Elijah's God is the living God before he stands tells the King, you think your god is god. Let us all see whose god is really God.
Ahab could have ordered Elijah imprisoned or killed for speaking to him in such a manner. Elijah has the assurance of Gods power. It did not rain for three years.
And Elijah went to show himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria. (1 Kings 18:2)
It isn't Baal today, however the practice of homosexuality is openly professed. There are self proclaimed Christians openly acknowledging this practice in the sight of the Living God.
The message sent is? Its okay to rebel against God. Christians worshipping Homosexuality are practicing idolatry. God will not be mocked. A higher court than man's court will make the final judgement.
Christians what do you stand for? what will you stand for? how will you stand? Homosexuality isn't the only sinful practice Satan is launching against Christianity. It is a virus spreading among the people of God.
Several years ago in Atlanta, Georgia a monument of the Ten Commandments sit in front of a government building. The structure was ordered to be removed. For several days people showed up with bible in hand praying and crying for hours in the Georgia heat. My God! they have the Ten Commandments in their hands! The monument was removed. Across the street from this show of spiritual solidarity are a group of destitute people watching. One could only imagine what message this sent to the people. It did not take long for them to find out. When all the praying, moaning, lifting up of hands to God ended, they walked pass the people got in their cars and left. These are just a few of the people experiencing the spiritual famine in the land today.
Jesus said, Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. (Matthew 12:33)
Elijah did not have an issue with standing. There are those who speak the word of God with great passion yet they only stand in the congregation as the Pharisees did to be recognized for who they are in the sight of man. Elijah's let Ahab know where, who, how, and by what power he stood.
The tree is: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalms 1:1-3)
What are his fruit? But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another envying one another.
(Galatians 5:22-26)
At the end of the day ask yourself the question, am I standing in the name of the Living God?
